MSU Wins First Match of MEAC Volleyball Tournament

The Morgan State University Lady Bears kicked-off the MEAC Tournament with a win Thursday afternoon over the Norfolk State Spartans 3-0 (30-10, 30-27, 30-14).

The tournament is being played in Greensboro, NC and the winner will advance to the NCAA Division I Tournament. The quarter and semi-finals will be played on Friday. The championship match is set for Saturday, November 20, 2004.

Morgan State (19-18, 6-4 MEAC) was in command for virtually the entire match. The Lady Bears were led by freshman right side Korinne Lewis who pounded out 10 kills in the match.

MSU got a strong defensive effort from Ashley Preston who contributed 11 digs for the day.

The win earns the Lady Bears a quarter-final match-up on Friday at 12:30p.m. against the Bethune-Cookman College Lady Wildcats.

B-CC defeated MSU when they two teams met last month at the MEAC Round-Up in Princess Anne, MD.
