The Lady Bears enjoyed their trip across town on Tuesday night. MSU paid a visit to Baltimore's west side and came away with a big win over Coppin State 3-0 ( 30-20, 30-25, 30-27).
The Lady Bears were in control from the opening serve, and set the tone throughout the evening. Â MSU got a push from the Lady Eagles in games 2 & 3, but managed to hold off the charge and put Coppin away.
MEAC "Rookie of the Week" Esther Johnson had a career night. Ms. Johnson collected a season high 27 kills to lead the way for MSU. Esther has 451 kills this season, leaving her 20 kills shy of the MSU all-time single season kill record of 471 set by Java Johnson in 2000.
MSU libero Ashley Preston had another strong night defensively. Ms. Preston picked up 14 digs and was all over the Coppin Center floor during the match.
Coppin State was held to .112 hitting as a team, and did not have a single player in double figures for kills.
Shauniece Steward and Trevon Dyson led the way for Coppin State with 7 kills for the night.
