Tia Henry lead the Lady Bears with 7 rebounds vs. UMES

The Morgan State University Lady Bears (1-16, 1-7 MEAC) turned the ball over 28 times, and were dominated on the boards in falling to the Lady Hawks of the University of MD-Eastern Shore on Tuesday evening in Princess Anne, MD. MSU dropped a 94-57 MEAC road decision.
The Lady Bears and Lady Hawks both shot 46% from the field for the game. However, MSU lost the battle of the boards (50-24), allowing 24 UMES offensive rebounds. The Hawks took 43 free throws, converting 29 of them. MSU was only 9 of 19 from the line.
MD-Eastern Shore (4-10, 2-6 MEAC) broke open a close game with a late first half spurt to take a 36-26 lead into the locker room.
It was all UMES in the 2nd half, as they outscored MSU by 27 points and won going away.
The Lady Bears were led by Jennyffer Vargas who scored 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field. The only other Morgan State player in double figures was Whitney Johnson who had a 12 point game.
Tia Henry was the leading rebounder for MSU, pulling down 7 boards.
UMES enjoyed balanced scoring in their victory. Laconia Hatcher led the way with 19 points. Tiffany Winkfield had a big day, scoring 15 points and grabbing 17 rebounds while handing out 5 assists.
Qiana Cheatham poured in 12 points, and LaToshia Bailey chipped in 10 points for the night.
The Lady Bears remain on the road for their next game. MSU will travel to Norfolk, VA to take on the Spartans of Norfolk State in a 2:00p.m. tip at Echols Arena on the Norfolk State campus.
