Sarissa Gaskins Leads Lady Bears With 6 Points vs. Delaware State

The Morgan State University Lady Bears (0-13, 0-5 MEAC) put together an inspired first half performance, but were unable to sustain it in the 2nd half. In the end MSU fell to the Lady Hornets of Delaware State University 64-33 Monday night in Dover, DE.
MSU continues to have problems with point production. The Lady Bears were held to their 2nd lowest point total of the season against the Lady Hornets. MSU made only one field goal in the 2nd half, and shot only 27% from the field for the game.
Turnovers continue to be a major problem, as MSU turned the ball over 38 times in the contest.
Morgan State did enjoy a rebounding edge in the game (35-33), however the turnovers limited shot opportunities, as the Lady Bears took only 34 shots in the game.
In the first half the Lady Bears played solid defense, and were able to stay with the Lady Hornets bucket for bucket for much of the half. MSU shot 44% in the 1st half, and held DSU to 33% shooting in the 1st stanza.
When the buzzer sounded ending the half, MSU was down by only four points at 26-22.
In the 2nd half, Morgan State simply could not make a basket. The only field goal in the half for MSU came when Sarissa Gaskins made a shot with 8:43 remaining in the game. The Lady Bears scored only eleven 2nd half points, with nine of them coming from the free throw line.
Delaware State's 14-4 run to begin the 2nd half essentially put the game on ice. Morgan State never seriously threatened after that.

The Lady Hornets were led by Mandy Clark and Andrea Jones. Clark had 14 points, while Jones enjoyed a 12 point evening.
MSU will look to get their first win of the season when they return home on Saturday to tangle with the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State.
