Basketball Alumni Return To Morgan State

On Tuesday, November 25, 2003 the Morgan State University men's basketball opened their home season by inviting 50 former players back to Hill Field House to a reunion reception and to be a part of their 76-75 win over Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Billed as Alumni Night at Morgan State, University President Dr. Earl Richardson and Head Basketball Coach Alfred "Butch" Beard welcomed the former players from MSU's previous hoop teams back to the old hardwood where they played their college games.  Class of '74 and current Assistant Director of Athletics, Joe McIver, led a tour of the newly renovated Hill Field House athletic facility and the players were recognized at halftime of the Bears win.

"We want to make this the first of an annual event for Morgan State basketball," says head coach, Butch Beard.  "The reception gave our alumni a sense of what we are trying to achieve at Morgan State.  Though we have come a long way in improving our facilities, but we wanted them to know that we need their help to move this program to the next level," added Coach Beard.

"Everyone I spoke to was excited about helping the program move to the next level.  We have already started compiling ideas to financially assist the program," commented Jim Gorman, Class of '78.

"One of my number one concerns for Morgan has always been to return the athletics programs to the prominences and tradition that it held during my undergrad days," says Stanley Tucker, Class of '69 and member of the University Foundation Board.  "I am looking forward to working with the program to bring more support and recognition."
