Final Results
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 12, 2022) – The Morgan State University men's track & field team put together a successful weekend at the 2nd Annual Kenneth Giles Invitational hosted by Norfolk State, capturing one individual title and nine top-5 performances at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
This weekend's meet – Morgan's second in a row at the VBSC - also served as a conference championship tuneup for the Bears. The 2022 MEAC Indoor Championship also takes place Feb. 21-23 at the VBSC.
In the field events, Lamar Davis cleared 7.09m (23-3.25) on his second attempt to place third in the long jump competition, while Kobe-Jordan Rhooms finished in fifth-place with a leap of 7.05m (23-1.75) and Derick Robinson finished eighth with a mark of 6.85m (22-5.75).
Malik Brown finished fifth-place in the pole vault with a personal best mark of 3.65m (11-11.75).
Zackery Dillon recorded a personal best toss of 16.82m (55-2.25) to place first in the shot put, while teammate John Purvis finished with a fifth with a toss of 15.20m (49-10.5).
Dillon also placed fifth in the weight throw with a personal best mark of 13.88m (45-6.5) on Friday, while Purvis took sixth with a 13.55m (44-5.5).
On the track, Keon Rantin placed seventh overall in the 200 meter finals clocking in with an IC4A qualifying time of 21.26. Rantin also placed third in the 60m (7.11) and ran a 6.84 in the 60m semifinals (T-No. 6 fastest time in the MEAC this season). Emmanuel Ibeh raced to a fourth-place finish in the 400m finals with a time of 49.37.
Justin Alston (9:21.85) and Jackson Waller (9:37.97) finished in seventh and tenth, respectively, in the 3000m run.
Devion Bryant recorded a time of 2:01.71 to place 10th in the 800m and also placed 10th in the mile with a personal best time of 4:29.07.
Duane Kizer took fifth-place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.36.
The 4x400 relay team comprised of Keon Rantin, Emmanuel Ibeh, Demier Shipley and Ali Bowens turned in a sixth place finish with a time of 3:28.13.
