Cross Country Opens Season with Solid Outing at Towson Invitational

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (Sept. 1, 2017)-The Morgan State men's cross country team began the 2017 season on Friday afternoon at the Towson Invitational, held at Oregon Ridge Park.

McDaniel captured the team title with 26 points (1:35:33), while the Bears turned in a second place finish with 50 points and a total time of 1:47.09. Coppin State placed third with 57 points and a total time of 1:53:47.
 
Sophomore Halim Joseph paced the Bears by clocking in with a second place time of 17:47.86, just behind McDaniel's Gavin Gibson who captured the individual title in a time of 17:31.68 in the 5-kilometer race. Lenier Tucker placed fourth with a time of 18:41.09, while Braxton Hammock  (22:42.06), Shindell Henry (23:58.19), Fernandes Boyd (23:59.24) and Devon Hairston (25:01.98) placed 13th, 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively.
 
Morgan State will travel to Princess Anne, Md. on Saturday, Sept. 2 for the Eastern Shore Lid-Lifter. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. with a women's 5k followed by the men's 5k and will take place at The Pavilion course of the north end of campus.
