Final Results

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 22, 2017)-The 14th Annual MSU Legacy Track Meet came to a close on Saturday evening at a rain-soaked Hughes Stadium. The Towson Tigers captured the 2017 Legacy Meet team title with 126 points to successfully defend their 2016 crown. Host Morgan State placed second with 106 points, while Monroe College came in third with 73 points. Temple (63) and Howard (60), finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out the top five.
 
Despite the rain, the Lady Bears finished Saturday with six athletes reaching ECAC qualifying marks in their respective events. Overall, Morgan State produced 19 top-10 finishes, 13 of which placed in the top-five, including two relays team that captured gold.
 
Morgan State's 4X100 meter relay team of Kevena Jones, Shenel Crooke, Brittany Meads and Annastacia Barham claimed first with an ECAC qualifying time of 45.99, while the 4X400 squad of Chantai Smith, Annastacia Barham, Valencia McDowell and Brittany Meads ran a time of 4:02.12 to win gold.
 
Saturday also saw two more meet records fall for a total of three record breaking marks being set on the women's side for the two-day event.
 
Khemani Roberts of Coppin State scored 5,038 points to win the heptathlon for the second straight year at the Legacy Meet. Roberts, who finished in first in all but one of the seven events, broke the previous Legacy record of 4,913 points set by Melville Cuquie of Delaware State on April 23, 2011.
 
Monroe College's Susan Ejore broke the 1500 meter run meet record, crossing the line in a time of 4:31.08. Ejore's time beat out the meet record of 4:31.75 previously set by Alexandra Lucki from the University of Maryland on April 18, 2015.
 
Roberts and Ejore joined Tiffin's Mirand Mondozzi as new Legacy Meet record holders. On Friday, Mondozzi broke the hammer throw record with a toss of 175-01 (53.37m).
 
Morgan State, which had just one athlete compete on Friday, began to make its surge to the top behind the performances of Shenel Crooke and Annastacia Barham, who each ran ECAC qualifying times in the 200 meter dash. Crooke, who finished second, ran a time of 24.20, while Barham finished in a time of 24.37 to place third.
 
Crooke would also place second in the 100 meter dash, crossing the line in 11.69 seconds, while also surpassed the ECAC qualifying mark. Kevena Jones would finish fifth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.23.
 
Saborrah Cooper finished second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.41 to become an ECAC qualifier.
 
Barham recorded the Lady Bears' sixth ECAC qualifier mark, when she took third-place in the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.32. Brittany Meads placed fifth in 57.04 seconds.
 
Valencia McDowell was clocked at 2:12.58 in the 800 meter run to place third and Ashley Souffrant finished ninth at 2:18.27. Daija Davis-Hines finished third in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.60.
 
The Lady Bears also received a strong performance in the field events from Jasmyn Hall. Hall placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 129-11, while placing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 41-06.50.
 
In the long jump, Rochelle Johnson earned seventh with a leap of 18-01.75, while Ke'von Lumb placed eighth with a jump of 18-01.00.
 
Bria Hill would finish 10^th in the triple jump with a mark of 36-00.00.
 
The Lady Bears will now turn their focus to the upcoming 123rd running of The Penn Relays on Thursday, April 27-Saturday, April 29 at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia, Pa.
