BALTIMORE, Md. (April 22, 2017)
-- The Morgan State men's track & field team captured second place in the 14th Annual MSU Legacy Track Meet at a rain-soaked Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State University. The Bears won four events and placed second in four others en route to a runner-up finish on Saturday.

The host Bears totaled 103 points, finishing only 30 points behind Rowan's total of 133 points. Coppin State followed in third place with 63 points and Delaware State was fourth with 55 points.

Despite the fluctuating weather, there were several memorable performances Saturday from Morgan State athletes.

Morgan State junior Lloyd Hylton got the Bears off to a good start by placing first in the long jump with a leap of 7.40-meters, and senior teammate Nigel Thompson placed second with a mark of 6.38-meters. Hylton and Thompson also teamed with junior Christopher Simon and freshman Joash Huggins to place second in the 4x100-meter relay (41.98) just .06 seconds behind Norfolk State (41.92).

Freshman Vikarie Elliott finished as the runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 14.95-meters, followed up with a fifth place finish in the discus (44.68) -- both were season best marks.

The Bears got third-place points from junior Stephen Varella in the 400-meter hurdles (53.46), junior Desean White in the 100-meter dash (10.51), and senior Onyx Johnson in the 800-meters run (1:53.67).

Senior Joel Roberson continues to shine for the Bears and captured gold in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.40. Freshman Caniggia Harriott and junior Fernandes Boyd finished eighth (49.04) and 10th (49.26), respectively.

Junior Desean White placed second in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 21.40, and junior teammate Deyvon Howell crossed the line in 21.55.

Morgan State's 4x400-meter relay quartet of Caniggia Harriott, Fernandes Boyd, Jonathan Johnson and Stephen Varella capped the meet with a thrilling first place finish in a time of 3:23.23.

Morgan State will turn its attention toward competing Thursday, April 27th in the largest and oldest track and field competition in the United States -- The Penn Relays.
