No. 62 Clarence Swain, Senior Center
Fayetteville, Georgia
Major: MathematicsSenior center
Clarence Swain continues to be one of the most valuable assets on the offensive line. Swain has been a steadfast member of the 'Trench Mob' from his days as a true freshman and should contend for postseason honors in this his last season in a Blue and Orange uniform. The Fayetteville, Georgia product has helped pave the way for a Bears offense that currently ranks No. 1 in the MEAC in total offense (405.8 ypg) and are No. 2 in scoring (30 ppg). Swain and the Bears will travel to face Norfolk State on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Student LifeWhere is the best place to study on campus? My room, because I like to be alone and by myself. The next best place would be one of the computer labs in the class buildings or in the library.
Why did you choose to major in Mathematics? Coming out of high school my mom was a teacher and I've always wanted to become a high school teacher. I've always loved math since I was in elementary school, so math just seemed right.
My favorite class at Morgan State is? Math 113. I actually helped my teacher because we always have a lot of foreign professors in the math department, so sometimes people can't understand their accents, so I helped teach the class. I knew most of the stuff anyway, so it gave me a chance to help teach and that's why I liked that class the most.
Favorite professor and why? My favorite professor is Dr.Coeing. He is one of the math professors and I feel like he understands and genuinely wants to help us [students] learn and pass his class. He's understanding and works with our schedules, and a lot of the times I feel like he understands what we're going through in school.
If you were the University President for a day, what would you do? I'd have
National School Spirit Day. It would be a day to get every organization known to everybody who is on campus, and have a chance for everyone to become united. I think that would help pull the school spirit up.
Describe your first day as a student at Morgan State University? My first day was a break – it was a breather because it came after three weeks of [football] camp. Coming out of high school you don't know what to expect out of camp -- it was the hardest thing of my life. Our first day of school was our day off -- we didn't have practice. To have an off day was the best thing of my life. Professors didn't give out homework or anything, they were just getting to know you. So I didn't have classwork, but It was just really great because I didn't have practice.
What do you like most about Morgan State? I like the small classes. I have three or four classes where there are six people in my class. So I enjoy that because then there's more one-on-one help with your teachers. You can ask a question and he/she can slow class down because there are not as many people to teach.
