Evely Macedo is a junior outside hitter for the Morgan State women's volleyball program, starting all seven matches during her first season with the Lady Bears. The 2014 Morgan State Scholar-Athlete is currently averaging 2.6 kills and .22 blocks per set while adding 2.0 digs. The 5-foot-11, Brazilian recorded a season-high 11 digs during the Lady Bears upset of Sacramento State at the Charlotte Invitational on Aug. 30.  Macedo and her squad are set to host cross-town rival Coppin State in their MEAC-opener on Friday, Sept. 26. 

Student Life
Where is the best place to study on campus? I like to study in my room because I feel more comfortable. I have everything there that I need.
Why did you choose to major in Civil Engineering?  I picked the major because I love math. I like to work hard and I thought that it would be a good major to be a professional in.
My favorite class at Morgan State is? My favorite has been my statistics class which is in my civil engineering class that I'm taking now.
If you were the University President for a day, what would you do? … I don't know Morgan very well, because I've only been here like a month, but I think they have a big engineering program and I think I would do a better job with the other majors to be just as big.
Describe your first day as a student at Morgan State University? … My first day I was completely lost. I went to the wrong class. We had practice in the morning and then right after practice I had a class and I got lost many times.
What do you like most about Morgan State? I really like my volleyball team the most. I think it's because I'm more with my teammates and coaches more than everything else.

Favorite TV show – My favorite show back home is Caldeirao do Huck. Here (In the states) it's MTV's Catfish.
Favorite movie -I Am Sam starring Sean Penn and Dakota Fanning.
Favorite book and/or magazine – I don't have a favorite book, but a book I read that I really liked is "Heaven Is For Real" – the book is better than the movie.
Favorite celebrity – Sheyla Castro.
Last concert I attended was – I really don't go to concerts, but I like listening to DJ's.
Favorite musician/musical group – Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Sports
Favorite pro sports team – My favorite team is Sao Paulo (a professional soccer team in Sao Paulo, Brazil)
Favorite athlete - I would say a volleyball player from Brazil by the name of Sheyla Castro. She's a right-side hitter and she is awesome. She played on the Brazilian professional team.
Favorite athletic memory – Winning two nationals championships -- in 2009 for the Brazilan National team and 2013 at Blinn College (Texas) where we won the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Title. 
What is your top skill in volleyball? Hit line and serve receiving.
What skill do you need to improve? – I need to improve on my transitioning and my blocking.
Pre-game/match superstition/Pre-game/match ritual – I just try to get focused.
 
Travel
Most interesting place I've visited – I definitely loved New York City. I visited there for New Years 2012-13. It was definitely an amazing experience.
Place I would like to visit – I would like to visit Greece.
 
Food 
Favorite home cooked meal – Escondidinho de carne seca.
Favorite snack – Peanut Butter & Jelly.
 
Misc.
Person I most admire – My parents.
In 10 years, I would like to be – I would like to be working in something that I love. I would like to get married and have kids, and have my own house, my own car and be established financially. And have my parents live close to me. Right now they live very far away – I want them close.
The hardest thing I've ever done was – Coming to America.
If I had a million dollars, I would – I think I would donate half and pay my bills...and construct my life with it.
Coolest thing you did this past summer – I went home and we had a family reunion (aunts, cousins, sister etc.) It was like big party. I also went to the beach and hung out with my friends and spent time with my parents.
People say I look like – My friend back home usually says I look like the bird from the Disney animated movie Up (laughs)
Most prized possession – My dog. My dog back home she's 12. I got her when I was 10 and I love her so much. Her name is "Duda" and she's a Yorkshire Terrier.
My favorite toy as a child – Barbie… But I also loved "Spongebob" – I still love Spongebob.   
Who is the funniest person on your team – Ari (Arianna Hayden)
Do you have an interesting nickname? – Eve 
What is your hometown known for? –  It's by the ocean and we have one of the prettiest beaches in Brazil.
Cats or Dogs? Dogs
Early Bird or Night Owl? – I like the night, but I used to never practice at 5 or 6 a.m. – never in my whole life, but now I'm used to practicing at that time so I guess I'm forced to love the morning (laughs) practices this early.
