Two Bears added to NFL practice squads

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Two former Morgan State stars have been added to NFL teams.  Former Bear tight end Lamont Bryant and running back Jourdan Brooks each have found homes on the practice squads of the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively.  Both had signed undrafted free agent deals prior to preseason camp.

Bryant started 11 games in 2012 and ranked as the team's leading receiver with 21 receptions (371 yards) and two TDs. He capped the season by being selected to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference First-Team.

Bryant's stock rose on draft boards with a standout performance at the Morgan State Pro Day held in March. Bryant measured in at 6'5, 225, had an 80 1/4" wingspan, ran the 40 in 4.45 and put up 19 reps on bench. He also registered a 10'3" broad jump, a ridiculous 43" vertical jump, and ran the short shuttle in 4.38.

In 2010, he recorded five catches for 55 yards (11.0 avg) in eight games. In '09, he caught 18 passes for 251 yards (13.9-yard average) and two touchdowns on his way to first-team all-conference honors in 10 games.

Brooks spent two years at Rutgers, but he transferred to Morgan State where his father was an All-Conference linebacker for MSU's 1979 MEAC Championship team.

At the Morgan State pro day, the running back had a 4.65-second 40-yard dash, a 32-inch vertical jump and a 7.27-second three-cone drill.

Brooks had 154 carries for 459 yards with three touchdowns during his MSU career, and had 59 carries for 193 yards and two touchdowns last season. He racked up nearly 800 yards and had 10 touchdowns during his two-year stint at Rutgers.

Each NFL team can establish an eight-player practice squad by signing free agents who do not have an accrued season of free-agency credit or who were on the 46-player active list for less than nine regular-season games during each of any accrued seasons. A player can not be on the practice squad for more than three seasons.
