BEARS OFFENSE SCORES 5 TDs IN SECOND PRESEASON TUNE-UP

BALTIMORE, Md.-- The Morgan State Bears survived their second preseason finale injury-free and are ready for their final test when they play in next Saturday's Blue versus Orange scrimmage.

With two weeks separating the Bears from their Sept. 4 season-opener against Bowie State, MSU coach Donald Hill-Eley put his team through a controlled scrimmage and what amounted to a full-contact dress rehearsal.

“I think today we had a successful scrimmage,” said Hill. “We definitely have some things that I would like to work on, but I was very impressed with the offense today.”
Sophomore quarterback Donovan Dickerson looked decisive and completed 10-of-16 passes for 188 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown to wideout Winfred Diggs in his strongest performance this preseason, as the Bears' offense scored five touchdowns on Saturday morning at Hughes Stadium.

“I think we did a pretty good,” said quarterback Dickerson. “Our offensive linemen were pretty good picking up the blitzes, and our receivers did a good job running routes; It made my job a little easier.”

The team made significant progress from their previous preseason game, as both the offense and defense both looked solid.

Delonte Williams finished the game by completing 7-of-12 passes for 99 yards, but was sacked four times. Williams also threw an interception that was returned by redshirt freshman cornerback Lafredo Brady for a 30-yard touchdown. Robert Council went 1-for-3 for 18 yards on limited snaps.

Kemar Scarlett led the special teams unit by nailing field goals from 20, 37 and 47 yards.
Lamont Bryant led the offense with four catches for 97 yards, while newcomer Chuka Okakpu finished with 51 yards on four receptions, including a 11-yard touchdown catch.
The scrimmage included a 50-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by redshirt-freshman Chris Flowers. The Florida native also had three receptions for 34 yards.

Jourdan Brooks, a transfer from Rutgers, got the bulk of the carries for the offense and scored two short yardage touchdowns.
The Bears defense was led by linebackers Allen Stephens and Dominick Bryan who finished with 10 tackles and a sack apiece. Chris Eugene and Jamal Collins each had five tackles each and combined for three sacks. Justin Young posted four tackles and recovered a fumble.
What Hill liked best was that there was improved consistency from down to down. Still, he sees areas where players need to step out and become more assertive.

“I'm confident we will touch on the things we need to improve by the start of the season," Hill explained. "We're going to watch the film and look at what we need to work on and take it from there.”
