Morgan State will travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on Saturday evening at the S-HMM Center at 4 p.m.
The Lady Bears who were off to its first 2-0 MEAC start since the 1999-2000 season, had their two-game winning streak snapped at Hampton on Monday, following a 74-37 thumping in a televised game on ESPNU. Corin Adams led Morgan with nine points, while Erin Hawkins added seven and Kristina Rosario had a career-high 14 rebounds, 10 of which were defensive.
Adams leads the Lady Bears with 18.0 points and a team-high 38 steals. Theresa Davis is adding 7.8 points per game and a team-leading 5.7 rebounds per contest.
South Carolina State (5-9, 0-2 MEAC) enters Saturday's contest on a two-game losing skid and has lost six of its last seven games. The Lady Bulldogs were dealt a 51-50 loss at Delaware State (1/11). Tiana Hemphill led SC State with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added a game-high four steals.
Sophilia Hipps leads SC State with 15.8 points per game and has tallied 34 steals and 47 assists, both team highs. Whitney Wiley is contributing 12 points per outing. The Lady Bulldogs have also got production out of Paris Alston (8.7 points, 6.6 rebounds) and Joi Walker, who leads the team in rebounding with 6.7 and is adding 8.1 points.
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE SERIES NOTES: South Carolina State leads the all-time series, 32-21, but the Lady Bears have won five straight, including last season's lone meeting, 62-59 in Orangeburg (2/9/09). South Carolina State's last victory over Morgan State was a 76-59 victory at home on Jan. 21, 2006.
NEXT UP: The Lady Bears will visit Winston-Salem State on Monday, Jan. 18 to take on the Lady Rams in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. at the C.E. Gaines Center. The game will finally conclude 14 straight road contests for Morgan State.
