BALTIMORE, Md. (July 28, 2024)--On Saturday afternoon Morgan State University graduate softball player
Victoria Fletcher added yet another accolade to wrap up her 2024 season, as she was named Softball Player of the Year during the inaugural HBCU Sports Awards show.

Hosted by the HBCU Sports crew of publisher Kenn Rashad and reporters Kendrick Marshall, Chris Stevens, and Jarrett Hoffman, the virtual show took place live on YouTube on July 27 and recognized athletes in 23 categories, administrators in 10, and coaches in 12 others from across the HBCU landscape.

The HBCU Sports Awards also presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to men and women contributors.

"It's an honor to receive this award. It means so much for not only me, but also my team," said Fletcher. "Morgan softball deserves to be seen and represented well in the softball world. After all the hard work, it's good to know it paid off finally."

A native of Huntington, Md., Fletcher repeated as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year after earning the award during the 2023 season. Fletcher would help the Lady Bears claim their fourth straight MEAC regular season crown and set the school record for wins (35), while capturing the program's second MEAC title and second NCAA appearance. She would also be named Most Outstanding Player of the MEAC Tournament.

Playing as a pitcher and infielder, Fletcher collected an ERA of 1.96, while throwing 85.2 innings. In 21 appearances with 16 starts, she recorded a 9-6 record with four complete games and a save. Fletcher struck out 60 batters and was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week three times throughout the season. At the plate, Fletcher had a .360 batting average with a slugging percentage of .567 and an on-base percentage of .418. In 150 at-bats, she registered 54 hits with 10 doubles and seven homeruns driving in 34 RBI and crossed home plate 16 times. Â
