Rankin and Ridley Receive CFPA Honorable Mention Accolades

BALTIMORE, MD. – Two members of the Morgan State football program, cornerbacks Joe Rankin and Kenneth Ridley, were ackowledged for their individual performances against Sacred Heart on Sept. 1. Rankin and Ridley received honorable mention accolades by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) as Defensive Backs of the Week, which was announced Sunday.
 
Rankin, a Germantown (Md.) native, recorded six tackles and had three breakups, but most importantly intercepted a pass and raced 72 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. It was the first time in two years that the Bears had a player return an interception for a score.  
 
It marked Rankin's sixth (6) career interception and the first he returned to “the house.”
 
Riddley, a redshirt junior from Hillside, N.J., collected eight tackles and had an interception in the first of four overtimes as the Bears went through four overtimes before pulling out a 30-27 victory at Hughes Stadium.
 
Riddley, a Preseason All-MEAC Second Team selection, improved his career interceptions to five (5) in just his second season with the Blue & Orange. Last season, he led the Bears with four interceptions (ranked T-2nd in MEAC).  
 
Morgan State (1-0) takes on Buffalo this Saturday at 6 p.m. at UB Stadium.  The Bulls (0-1) will attempt to bounce back from a 45-23 loss at Georgia.
