FORMER BEAR SIGNS CFL CONTRACT

BALTIMORE, Md. – Former Morgan State football standout Jarrell Guyton has signed his first professional contract with the 2009 CFL champions Montreal Alouettes.

Guyton, Morgan State head coach Donald Hill-Eley's first recruits from Miami, was one of the premier linebackers in the nation. The 6-0, 225 pounder led one of the most dominating defensive units in the FCS and was selected as the2008 MEAC's Defensive Player of the Year. The Bears led the FCS in total defense giving up less than 213.4 yards per game.
“He was a great player for us and he deserves his opportunity,” said Hill. “It's also good to send him to a team that I coached (the Montreal Alouettes were formerly the Baltimore Stallions) before it moved from Baltimore after the 1995 season.”
Guyton collected 35 solo and 35 unassisted tackles for the Bears this season. He put up numbers in almost every defensive statistical category including 70 total tackles, 13 tackles for a loss of 41 yards, four sacks for a 22 yard loss, one interception for a 22 yards return, three broken up passes, one hurry, and one forced and recovered fumble.
Following his collegiate career, Guyton spent a season with the Maryland Sting, where he was the leading tackler and helped the Sting become the 2009 champions of the American Conference.
