KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 5, 2008)-Krystena Castro tallied 10 kills and Kala Abdell added nine to lead Florida Atlantic (FAU) to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17) non-conference victory over Morgan State on Friday night at the Swinney Recreation Center in the second match for both teams in the Kangaroo Klassic.

The Lady Bears (0-6) fell behind 15-8 in the opening set and went on a scoring spurt to get within 22-17. However, the deficit was too much, as they lost to Florida Atlantic, 25-18.

Morgan State led for most of the second set and held a 15-12 advantage, but watched as Florida Atlantic went on a 13-1 run, while scoring the last 11 points to close out the set and take a 2-0 lead.

The third set was much like the second, as the Lady Bears stayed close with FAU. Morgan tied the set at 11-11, but could not stop the Owls, who took a 17-12 advantage. FAU's lead would grow to 23-14, before a brief 3-0 run by Morgan made it a 23-17 game.

The Lady Bears were led by Erin Cox, who finished with nine kills to lead Morgan State. Dina Beamon finished with a team-high 10 digs, tying FAU's Kristyna Dzmuranova for match-high honors. Christa Rogers led Morgan with a team-high and match-tying 16 assists. Kierra Riley notched a match-high five blocks to help the Lady Bears outblock Florida Atlantic, 6-3 as a team.

Florida Atlantic (3-1) finished with a hitting percentage of .287, while Morgan hit .087. The Owls also had seven service aces with four coming from Dzmuranova.

Morgan State returns to action Saturday morning with a non-conference match against Samford at 9 a.m. and closes out the tournament with a 1 p.m. match against Arkansas State.
