HAMDEN, Conn. (Aug. 29, 2008)-Alyssa Naylor recorded a match-high 12 kills and Jenna Benigno and Stephanie Biediger added 11 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead host Quinnipiac to a 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19) non-conference victory over Morgan State on Friday night in the Quinnipiac Invitational at Burt Kahn Court.
Morgan State (0-2) was led by Erica Turnbull and Erin Cox, who each tallied 11 kills. Delissa Carline finished with a match-high 10 digs and Christa Rogers totaled 30 assists, six kills and six digs.
The Lady Bears overcame a five-point deficit in the opening game, before closing out the game with a 16-4 spurt to win 25-17. Trailing 14-9, Morgan State scored the next seven points on the serve of Rhyan Shy, to take a 16-14 lead.
The Bobcats (1-1) pulled within 16-15, before Morgan State scored went on a 9-0 run, with eight of those points coming on the serve of Cheryl Savoy, giving the guests a 24-16 advantage.
Kayla Lawler finished with 34 assists and nine digs and Christa Valentino finished with a match-high three service aces for the Bobcats.
Morgan State will return to action on Saturday morning with a non-conference match against crosstown foe Towson at 11:30 a.m., before closing out with Fordham at 4:30 p.m.
