James Dozier, a native of Baltimore, MD, played high school football at Randallstown High School, in Randallstown, Maryland. He entered Morgan State University in 1987, and ended his career holding the school records for most sacks in a season (14.5) and most sacks in a game (4.5), both records that still stand today.
Arguably one of the top defensive players to have played at Morgan State University, Mr. Dozier was a First-team All-MEAC defensive lineman selection in 1989 and 1990. As a sophomore in 1989, he distinguished himself as a stand out player for the Bears and was recognized as the team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player. Mr. Dozier continued his exceptional play for Morgan State during his junior season, setting the school record for most sacks in a season and ended the year as the second Morgan Bear ever to be named MEAC Defensive Player of the Year. [Total of 4 Bears to be named MEAC Defensive POY: Eugene Simms-1973, Dozier-1990, Jarrell Guyton-2008 and George Howard-2009]. He finished his career in 1991 being selected as the Bear’s Most Valuable Player overall and as the Morgan State Male Athlete of the Year.
Since completing his studies at Morgan State University in 1993, graduating with Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Mr. Dozier has been an active citizen in his community. He has been a volunteer football coach with the Emmorton Rec football program (2007-2009, 2013) and is a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity. Mr. Dozier currently resides in Abingdon, MD, with his wife Susan, and children Joshua, Jahmera and Ashton.
