Cyril Byron

A football guard turned quarterback, Byron quarterbacked the 1945 undefeated 11. He also competed in track, in the 440-yard dash and the javelin where he won the CIAA open championship in 1941. Was the Deao of Education at Coppin State College (Baltimore, MD).

Cyril Byron, Jr. was appointed associate CFO for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer's Economic Development and Regulation Cluster in March 2006. Prior to his current position, Byron served as the agency fiscal officer for the Department of Employment Services (DOES). He also worked as the CFO for the University of the District of Columbia where he handled the day-to-day operations of the agency, including its procurement and facilities management.

He has also worked in the Office of Financial Operations and Systems. While working for the Office of Financial Operations and Systems, Byron established the District’s first shared-service center and provided comprehensive financial services to 21 of the city’s smaller agencies. He also served as controller for the Office of Employee Appeals; worked for the DC auditor and held a number of positions with the Council of the District of Columbia.

Byron earned a master’s degree in public affairs and a bachelor’s in political science from Howard University. He is a member of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators and the of the Government Finance Officers’ Association (GFOA).  He currently serves as the president for the GFOA  Washington, DC Chapter.

Byron was an administrative lieutenant major in the U.S. Army Air Corps,  99th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, it states. He served in Sicily, Italy, North Africa, and elsewhere in Europe.
