Roberts Selected MEAC Rookie of the Week

BALTIMORE, MD. – Following another impressive showing last Saturday, Morgan State freshman linebacker Elandon Roberts has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.
 
Roberts is off to a great start for his collegiate career. He earned a starting position on defense as a true freshman, recorded double-digit tackles (11) in his season debut against Sacred Heart (Sept. 1), and had another solid effort this past weekend against BCS member Buffalo.
 
The Port Arthur, Texas product collected seven tackles and had a tackle for a loss against the Bulls. He also collected his first career interception when he picked off UB standout quarterback Alex Zordich in the 3rd quarter.
 
Roberts currently leads the team in tackles (18 –T-7th in MEAC) and tackles for loss (3.0).
 
He is the first Bears to earn conference rookie of the week accolades since Seth Higgins claimed the honor last season on Oct. 11, 2011.
 
Morgan State (1-1) takes on Akron this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. during the Zips home-opener at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. The game will be televised by ESPN3. The Zips will enter the contest with a 0-2 record following a 41-38 overtime loss at FIU.
