Gonzalez and Johnson Receive CFPA Honorable Mention Accolades

BALTIMORE, MD. – Two members of the Morgan State football program, punter Earvin Gonzalez and tight end Kristian johnson, were acknowledged for their individual performances against North Carolina A&T on Sept. 27. Gonzalez and Johnson received honorable mention accolades by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) as Punter and Tight End of the Week, respectively, which was announced Monday.
 
Gonzalez, a product of Visalia (Calif.), continues to be a weapon for MSU's special teams unit. Last Thursday night against the Aggies, the senior punted 10 times, averaged 45.7 yards per punt, and recorded a career-high 65-yarder. His 65-yard blast is currently the longest punt of the season in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Additionally, Gonzalez handled the kickoff duties and averaged 59.0 yards on two kicks and was a perfect 3-of-3 on point after attempts.
 
Gonzalez currently leads the league in field goals (7-11 FG) and PAT kicking (10-10 PATs), ranks No. 2 in field goal percentage (63.6 pct) and is No. 6 in punting (38.8 avg).
   
Johnson, a senior from Brightseat, Md., was on the receiving end of a Robert Council 34-yard touchdown pass to help lift the Bears to a 14-6 lead against the Aggies. Johnson finished the night with a game-high four catches for 91 yards.
 
Johnson currently has four receptions for 91 yards (22.8 avg) and a touchdown in four games played. 
 
Morgan State (2-2, 1-0 MEAC) takes on Savannah State (0-4, 0-2) this Saturday at 7 p.m. during the Tigers second home game of the season at Theodore Wright Stadium. The game will be broadcast live by WEAA, 88.9 FM. The Tigers will enter the contest coming off a 56-9 loss at Howard.
