Standout linebacker Allen Stephens returns to anchor Morgan State's defensive unit.
BALTIMORE, Md. – Morgan State junior linebacker Allen Stephens was named Tuesday to the preseason watch list for the FCS Linebacker of the Year Award given by the College Football Performance Awards.
Stephens is one of 41 FCS linebackers on the preseason list by the CFPA, which gives out weekly and yearly positional awards based on objective, scientific ratings of the extent to which players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
Stephens completed last season for the Bears with 65 total tackles, including 11.5 for losses and 3 sacks. He also had two quarterback hurries, in addition to a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Already being mentioned in the same breath as recent MSU standout linebackers Albert Gamble, Vincent Brown and Jerrell Guyton, he will be a player to watch this fall.
Other MEAC linebackers on the list include Ryan Davis and Ryan Lewis of Bethune-Cookman, Keith Pough of Howard, Corwin Hammond of Norfolk State and Roger Stewart of North Carolina Central.
The Bears will kickoff the 2011 season on September 3rd against the Towson Tigers.
