MSU’s Howard Earns Second MEAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

BALTIMORE, Md. – For the second week in a row, senior linebacker George Howard of Morgan State University was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 20, 2009 the league announced Monday.

Will Croner of Howard was also selected as Co-Defensive Players of the Week, while Norfolk State wideout Chris Bell was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

Tahree McQueen of Delaware State earned Rookie of the Week honors while Florida A&M's  Robert Okeafor and DSU's Nick Lochner earned Offensive Lineman and Special Teams Player of the Week accolades, respectively.
Howard,a Preseason All-MEAC 2nd Team selection,recorded a career-high 18 tackles, nine solo, with 1.5 for a loss of two yards. He also forced a fumble that aided MSU to a 12-9 win over Towson, the first for the Bears since 2003.
Howard's Defensive Player of the Week selection marks the second of his career and he currently ranks No. 3 in total tackles (43) in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and ranks No.1 in the MEAC.

The Bears, who are 2-1 on the season, resume their schedule on Saturday afternoon in their MEAC-opener against Bethune-Cookman (0-3, 0-2). The game will be broadcast by WEAA, 88.9 FM. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Nicholas Adams (MSU) averaged 38.4 yards on nine punts with four inside the Tigers 20 yard line and one downed on the one yard line. 
Justin Castellat (NSU) was 2-for-3 on field goals and 4-of-5 on extra points in the Spartans victory.
LaMarcus Coker (HAM) carried the ball 16 times for 135 yards and caught one ball for four yards in a conference loss to Delaware State.
William Falakiseni (NSU) graded out at 89 percent of his assignments while helping the Spartans with 438 yards of total offense. He also posted four pancake blocks.
Anthony Glaud (DSU) completed 20-of-31 passes for 150 yards with one touchdown. He also rushed seven times for 21 yards and another TD in the Hornets win over the Pirates.
Troy Georgia (HOW) graded out at 98-percent, with three pancake blocks, as he aided the Bison offense to 276 yards.
Greg Harvey (FAMU) recorded a team-high 11 tackles, six solo, and deflected a pass in the Rattlers non-conference win over Tennessee State.
Keith Pough (HOW) collected five tackles, two hurries and helped limit the Georgetown offense to 40 yards rushing.
Greg Ligon (DSU) tallied three tackles, one solo, including two interceptions for 23 yards to help the Hornets pick up their first win of the season.
Nail Muradymov (DSU) graded out at 86-percent of his assignments with eight pancake blocks in the Hornets victory over the Pirates.
Trevor Scott (FAMU) was perfect 4-of-4 in PATs and booted a 47-yard field goal in the Rattlers victory.
Jamie Short (NSU) recorded four tackles, two solo, with two interceptions in the Spartans win over the Wildcats.
Isaac Wesr (FAMU) caught six passes for 134 yards and one touchdown in the Rattlers 31-12 victory over Tennessee State.
Patrick Wolff (HOW) averaged 40 yards, on seven punt attempts, with three inside the Hoyas 10-yard line including a career best 58-yard effort.
