Setting the Scene: The Morgan State football team continues its 112th season of football on Saturday, Sept. 26 when they host crosstown non-conference rival Towson at Hughes Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. The contest will be broadcast live on WEAA, 88.9FM.
The Bears (1-1) will enter the game coming off their first win of the season when they dropped Winston-Salem State 16-10 in overtime at the New York Urban League Classic at Giants Stadium. The Tigers held on to claim a 21-17 victory against coastal Carolina in their home-opener and improved to 1-1 on the season.
MSU's win last Saturday improved head coach Donald Hill-Eley's all-time record to 37-44 two games into his eighth season at the helm. Hill's 37 wins since 2002, is good enough for third-best all-time record behind legendary coaches Edward P. Hurt and Earl. C. Banks. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 p.m. (EST). Senior linebacker George Howard is one of thetop returning tacklersin the MEAC. He totaled64 stops last seasonand was selected tothe 2009 Preseason All-MEAC Second-Team.The Virginia native played a significant roleas a linebacker last season and posted 10.5tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and recorded aninterception return against North CarolinaCentral (9/13/08). He is a fierce competitorand will be one of the leading anchors ofthe Bears defensive unit for the '09 season.Howard racked-up a career-high 17 tackleswith a sack during the Bears overtime winagainst Winston-Salem State in the NewYork Urban League Classic. As a result of hisstellar performance, Howard was namedthe Classic's Defensive Most ValuablePlayer, the MEAC's Co-Defensive Playerof the Week and he currently leads the MEAC in total tackles (25) and ranks 8th in the FCS.
