Kemar Scarlett has been a highlight for the Bears' special teams unit.
BALTIMORE, Md. – For the second time this season, junior placekicker Kemar Scarlett of Morgan State University was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending October 25, 2009 the league announced Monday.
Curtis Pulley of Florida A&M was selected as Offensive Player of the Week, while Avery Grant of Delaware State was selected as the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Dontavious Payne of North Carolina A&T earned Rookie of the Week honors while Florida A&M's Robert Okeafor earned Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades, respectively.
Scarlett was one of the highlights for the Bears in the loss to the Hornets. The junior connected on both of his field goal attempts including a 44-yarder and a MEAC record tying 55-yard boot in team's disappointing defeat. His kick tied the previous MEAC record held by former MSU kicker K.C. Vasquez (1998).
Scarlett's Special Teams Player of the Week selection marks the second of the season and he currently ranks T-No. 3 in field goals (5-7 FG), including makes from 41, 42, 48 and 55 yards.
The Bears, who are 5-2 (3-1 MEAC) on the season, resume their schedule on Saturday afternoon when they host Florida A&M in a MEAC matchup (5-2, 3-1). The game will be broadcast by WEAA, 88.9 FM. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Willie Carter (HOW) caught six passes for 84 yards and one touchdown in the homecoming loss to the N.C. A&T Aggies.
Donnell Dixon (DSU) caught three passes for 46 yards and recorded his first career touchdown in DSU's 35-22 victory over Morgan State.
Justin Ferrell (NCAT) tallied two tackles and two interceptions in the Aggies 30-19 victory over the Bison.
Quier Hall (FAMU) registered seven tackles, one deflected pass, and one interception return for 30 yards in the Rattlers 34-20 victory over the Spartans.
Jaashawn Jones (DSU) carried the ball 17 times for 107 yards and one touchdown in the Hornets homecoming victory over the MSU Bears.
Nick Lochner (DSU) punted the ball four times for 169 yards including a career long 70-yard boot in the Hornets victory over Morgan State.
Malcolm Long (SCSU) completed over 80-percent of his passes (21-of-26) with a season-high 234 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs 21-9 victory over Hampton.
Wallace Miles (NCAT) connected on 1-of-2 field goals (32 yards) and was 3-of-4 in extra point attempts in the Aggies win.
Keith Pough (HOW) recorded six solo tackles, three assists, with three behind the line of scrimmage in Howard's homecoming loss.
Nick Richmond (DSU) graded out at 90-percent of his assignments as he helped anchor an offensive line that totaled 281 yards of offense including 131 yards on the ground.
Ian Simon (HOW) tallied seven tackles, four solo, including two pass breakups. He also forced and returned a 15-yard fumble to set up the Bison's first touchdown.
Trevor Scott (FAMU) connected on 2-of-3 field goals of 22 and 30 yards and was a perfect, 4-of-4, in extra point attempts.
Brenton Walker (NCAT) posted five pancake blocks and graded out at 91-percent of his assignments in the Aggies win over the Bison.
