BALTIMORE, Md. –Redshirt freshman Kevin Thompson of Morgan State University was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, for the week ending December 28, 2008 the league announced Tuesday.
Michael Deloach of Norfolk State was selected as the Player of the Week while MD-Eastern Shore's Keishawn Mayes was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Thompson, a 6-8 forward from Walbrook High School, recorded 25 points in two non-conference games last week for the Morgan State Bears. He grabbed six rebounds and blocked five shots in a 70-68 win over William Jessup. He followed that performance with a season-high 18 points and six rebounds against St. Mary's (CA) in the Championship of the Office Solutions Shamrock Classic.
Other top players of the week included senior point guard Jermaine Bolden. The Baltimore product collected averaged 12 points, 3.5 rebounds, four assists and two steals to help the Bears finish 1-1 last week.”Itchy” also nailed a game-winning buzzer-beater to help the Bears drop William Jessup.
The Bears, who are 5-7 and 1-0 in the conference, resume their schedule when they travel to College Park (Md.) to square-off against the Maryland Terrapins. The game is set to tip-off at Comcast Center at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6th.
